Team Building - Sand City

For this Team Building the objective was to have activities based on cooperation between teams and colleagues. Having this in mind, we have launched the task of building the Sand City.

The location was perfect for the challenge, Hotel Best Western Savoy from Mamaia has a very big and generous private beach.

Building the Sand City was team work, collaboration and creativity put together.

150 people, split in 6 teams / districts, had to build a compact and unified city with all the main sights and institutions required. The teams were mixed in order for people to interact with people from other departments, to get to know each other better and to help them communicate more efficient.

They had to select their mayors, the architects and the policemen. After all the roles were distributed the planning begun. The city plan was made by the 6 architects, and the mayors organized the activity of the districts following the rules of the game.

After planning, each mayor and architect went to their teams to share the plan and to put it in to practice. All the team members were involved in building the city, making the policemen job easy, as they were equipped with water guns and in charge of the good order or of cooling the team members.

Besides all the landmarks that are required in a city they have built houses for themselves, in some districts there were small houses, in others big apartment buildings and every person involved in the exercise had his own personal touch putted into the city.

For almost 4 hours every team member contributed to building the Sand City, proving creativity, efficiency and team work. During the construction the mayors and the architects had to communicate and met regularly in order to check the progress of city and the connections between districts.

They managed to create a beautiful city that was functional and connected between its districts. After the city was finished the general mayor cut the rope that marked the 6 districts and joined the city.

Building the Sand City made us take a journey back to our childhood days and rediscover the playfulness of the children in us. But this was play with a purpose. During the exercise, we were able to see values of ownership, creativity, responsibility and systems thinking being displayed in the great construction of the Sand City.
